The Forde Inquiry, as it was known, found significant evidence of abuse and neglect of children in Queensland institutions in the past and identified ongoing concerns about current practices in relation to child protection and youth detention.
National Redress Scheme
The Australian Government has developed the National Redress Scheme to provide support to people who were sexually abused as children in institutions.
Truth, Healing and Reconciliation Taskforce
The Taskforce will provide for the views of those who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse, support services and organisations in advice to the Queensland Government on implementing the reforms arising from the Royal Commission.

The Australian Government delivered a National Apology to the Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants at a special remembrance event in Canberra on 16 November 2009.
